Event Details
On Saturday, 28th August, MadLab [1] are hosting "U3 - an Ubuntu and Upstream UnWorkshop day" in collaboration with HacMan [2], ManLug [3] and Manchester Free Software [4] to coincide with the Ubuntu Global Jam [5].
An UnWorkshop Day is a day of talks and workshops, where the timetable and topics are defined by the people who attend on the day, similar to unconferences like BarCamps but with more of a collaborative feel. There will be lots of things going on, and whatever we do together, we'll have gurus and experts from various disciplines there to help us! The day will be mainly focused around the Ubuntu [6] Operating System but will also look at the other projects that help to make up that system (known as Upstream Sources), including the Debian project, Gnome and KDE Desktop Environments and many more.
Do you want to understand how best to report, track and even fix bugs in the Open Source projects and programs you use? Are you an artist and would like to know about getting your works included in a Free Software project? Maybe you'd like to try the latest beta release of Ubuntu (codenamed Maverick Meerkat) to see what's coming, or find out what it's like to install a Linux Distribution on different hardware platforms? Would you like to write documentation, instructions or just find out how best you can help others in the community? Can you help people who are not able to read English, by translating words and phrases from programs and documents for projects like Ubuntu into other languages? Have you ever wondered how you could create installable program packages so that people running Linux distributions like Debian or Ubuntu can use them?
If any of this sounds interesting to you, please get your FREE ticket above (tickets become available from 12th August at 1pm), and we look forward to seeing you on the day! Can't wait to get involved? Join the mailing list at http://pielists.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/u-cubed and be a part of the discussion.
